First time gardener...question?

Hi, I am getting my first garden prepared and am wondering about the best flowers to put into my garden. I purchased some morning glory seeds, but after reading about it online it didn't seem to be the best flower to have in your garden if you don't have a fence or anything for it to grow on. What are some other reasonably priced flowers to start my garden off with? I don't want to spend $20 a plant, but I would like to have some decent plants that wont make my garden look like a weed bed.
