Would I be considered to old......?

Friends have told me Im to old to seek companionship, and that I have to much of a background for anyone to want to be around me now....Ive kinda got used to the last 15 years on my own because ive listened to everyone else....is 39 to old to think about believing that I have good qualities....and that I might be worth someting to someone....?
