I think I've reached my tanning limit (how do I get tanner)?

I live in hawaii.. Im out in the sun all the time I work out in the sun... but 4 sum odd reason Im not tan. I dont have fair skin just a nice beige color but I want to have a killer tan 4 when I go to the mainland ... Is there something Im doing wrong? is there a way to improve my tan?
