Any good Non-Vampire books you suggest?

A really good what I would call High Fantasy author is Tamara Pierce. Start with the Song of the Lioness quartet, they all go from there and just keep better and better. I grew up on these, and they have my whole hearted recommendation to any girl who likes fantasy. (No vampires, just old school magic.)
